Universiti Geomatika Malaysia (UGM) started as a Vocational Centre in 2000, carving a niche in Land Surveying. Noting a growing demand for such a specialization, Geomatika applied for college status and obtained approval from the Ministry of Education.

Due to overwhelming demand, Geomatika established its Department of Geospatial and Land Development and launched the Centre of GIS (CeGIS) Short Courses Program in Geospatial Technology as well as Certificate in Land Assistantship Surveying.
